JLS International Inc. owners, Jeff and Darlene Smith, began raising cattle in 1989. They quickly got involved in the Brangus breed and joined the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA). They also own companies in industrial heating, air conditioning and a plumbing as well as a flight-based operation in Foley, Alabama. Their son, Lance, is attending law school, and his wife, Julie, is attending dental school.
Myron Saathoff, a south Texas native, joined JLS as manager in 1999 after having worked for a number of Brangus operations. He also owns Saathoff Cattle Company and has served on the IBBA show committee for several years. Myron and his wife, Neva, have two children. Their son, Tate, is a manager for DR Horton, and their daughter, Tenessa, coaches volleyball. JLS has succeeded in the show ring, winning numerous honors including 2002 Show Sire of the year and Show Bull of the Year, 2005 Grand Champion International Female and Reserved Champion Bull, 2007 International Champion Bull and Show Sire of the Year, 2008 International Reserved Grand Champion Heifer, 2009 Grand Champion International Female, and 2010 International Champion female among others. But, JLS doesn't just excel in the show ring. They provide bulls and females that work for the everyday cattleman. 2007 Brangus Breeder of the Year
